I read like a mad woman in pregnancy… like probably over 40 books. Below I’ll list my favorites by topic.
The birth process
birthing from within was recommended by my childbirth educator friend, Mary Blyth. It’s an excellent narrative and empowering read about the transformation of motherhood.
The Birth Partner 5th Edition: A Complete Guide to Childbirth for Dads, Partners, Doulas, and Other Labor Companions
This whole series I recommended before childbirth, but I found this book extremely helpful, not just for my husband but fore me! For some reason some of the “dad” books explained details of childbirth better than books meant for the mother.
The Pregnancy Encyclopedia: All Your Questions Answered
This had straightforward facts with lots of pictures.
The Womanly art of breastfeeding
One of the most controversial baby topics! I read the whole gamete and settled on bedsharing, nursing to sleep, and baby led nap schedules within age appropriate wake windows. But at least it was an informed decision.
All of the books gave me little hints and tips regardless of whether they agreed with my personal choices.
